HATTONS RHTT
It's been a busy couple of weeks in the Model Rail office, with a wide range of new models arriving for review. Something I'd been looking forward to seeing in the flesh was Hattons' 'OO' gauge Network Rail Railhead Treatment Train (RHTT). Based on the FEA wagon platform (also being offered by Hattons in various intermodal and engineers' formats), the various tank and equipment modules are wonderful little models in their own right.
Etched steel handrails provide a touch of class - and resilience - while the quality of the finish is superb. Indeed, there are countless printed logos and legends, all of which are crisp and fully legible. There's even the pipes and jet nozzles for the water jets and Sandite applicators. A number of pristine and weathered versions have been produced, although they're selling really fast.
Just the thing for running between a pair of heritage or modern diesels, they're perfect for any UK-outline layout that depicts the modern rail scene.
You can read my full review in the June issue of Model Rail (MR261), on sale 9 May.
